26 Australia Day Recipe Ideas

Wondering what to cook this Australia Day weekend? Here are 26 of my favourite dishes created with a dash of tradition, an abundance of fresh produce and a melting pot of cultural influences. Oh, and did you know that the 26th is a very special day for me personally because on that day 15 years ago, Sydney became my new home.

Fifteen years!  And, yes, I do call Australia home. To be honest, every time I travel I cannot stop smiling when I come back home, to Sydney. Don’t get me wrong, I love to travel and I’m not the one to forget my ethnic background, cultural heritage, language or indeed treasured Polish family recipes. They will always be a part of me and part our menu – Matt loves all sorts of pierogi so they are definitely staying.

There’s just something special and magical about Australia that’s worth celebrating (that’s what Australia Day is all about). Aside from the climate and breathtaking natural wonders, there are the people. Determined, proud but laid back at the same time. There is the fact that we all come from different places and for the most part get on well. Then there’s food. It is such a big part of so many cultures who have been calling Australia home. It brings people together and in most recent years we’ve seen so many ethnic influences on Modern Australian cuisine. Asian, South American, Middle Eastern. It is fantastic to see.

Yes, we do live in a lucky country and I just hope and pray that we continue to cherish the blessings that have been bestowed upon us. As I celebrate a decade and a half of living here, I wish you all a Happy Australia Day – have a delicious weekend!

Congratulations and many more years to come. Australia is one of the best countries in the world and we are very lucky! We might try those juicy beer ribs!

I moved to the lucky country in 1995 so I’m not far off 20 years here. It took about a year for my palate to change from too much salt and sugar – the American way. I’m very happy and thrilled to celebrate Australia Day tomorrow and again on Monday. I’m going to choose something from this list!
