Egg Yolk Moisturising Masque for Dry and Brittle Hair

If you have brittle, dry hair – ends especially, apply this all natural hair softening masque once a week for a month to soften and moisturise tired, lifeless locks. It’s 100% natural and made with a handful of simple ingredients you most likely already have in your kitchen.

Egg Yolk Moisturising Masque for Dry and Brittle Hair

I’ve decided to expand The Wholesome Cook a little bit to include healthy living articles, such as this one in amongst my regular recipe posts. I hope you enjoy and find them useful.

Made with three ingredients found in most kitchens: egg yolks, almond or macadamia oil and lemon juice, the masque is rich in natural vitamins and moisture-locking oils. I tend to apply it around once a month, more frequently in winter when the hair is exposed to dry air a bit more.

Coconut oil can also be used, but be mindful that it has to be heated and it will solidify in your hair in colder weather. As will the yolk but, while I love using coconut oil as a hand moisturiser, I am a little more cautious about pouring it down the drain (scared it would solidify and clog the plumbing!).

This recipe makes enough masque for shoulder-length hair. Double or triple the recipe for longer or thicker hair.

Total Time5 minutes

Ingredients

  • For the Egg Yolk Masque:
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 4 tablespoons macadamia or olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

  • Mix all ingredients together in a small bowl. Brush hair and using your fingertips apply the masque to the end 2-3 inches of your hair. Tie into a loose bun and leave for 30 minutes - your hair will go really stiff, that's okay.
  • Rinse well under warm running water. You can shampoo and conditioner as usual before drying and styling.
