Nourish Cookbook Giveaway

I’ve been a Lorna Jane fan for quite a while, having bought my first LJ workout top from her Gold Coast store about 10 years ago now. There’s something magnetic and inspirational about the brand.

You see, LJ has created a brand and Active Living philosophy that  inspires women to get more out of life by giving more of themselves every day. What began as a desire to create a fashionable and fit active wear, has turned into a brand that inspires women to not only move their bodies every day, but to nourish themselves from the inside and believe in their ability to achieve great things.

This passion and drive is evident in the newest addition to the Lorna Jane inspirational book arsenal, NOURISH.

I love to give myself a bit of alone time with no kids, go for a walk or just sit and read a book, time to gather my thoughts and relax.

Hi Narelle, I definitely agree with your alone-time strategy. As much as we love our jobs as Mums, I think it’s important to focus on ourselves as well.

In my crazy hectic life looking after my 3 little ones and working part time, I find the best way to nourish my body and mind is to snatch time to walk alone .. no pram, no children crying out, no phone calls … just time to inhale & exhale .. bliss!!

Fantastic tip – and it keeps the garden looking tidy! My Mum finds peace and balance in the garden as well. In fact, during fall she can be found in the woods on most days, foraging, breathing and enjoying nature and solitude.

That’s a fantastic mantra Kristy. I think we often get stressed about such small things. I know, I do. And there’s no need.

To nourish myself every day I get up early and go for a walk or run, then ensure I start the day with a healthy breakfast that I sit and take the time to enjoy. I also make a variety of healthy snacks to take to work. Week nights I do a weight or cardio session at the gym before heading home to cook a nourishing dinner. I also nourish my body by taking the time to relax; usually by watching some tv with my partner, reading and making sure I get enough sleep. I do quick yoga session on Saturdays to begin the weekend refreshed and relaxed. I absolutely love cooking/baking and trying new recipes and lots of them come from the Move Nourish Believe site so I would love to win a signed copy of Lorna’s new cookbook!

I always feel so much more alive when I’m moving often and eating whole food and lots of vegetables. There is nothing like creating healthy, yummy, beautiful food to share with family and friends and to nourish the soul. Visits to the farmers markets always set me up for healthy eating throughout the week…I need to use up all the produce!

Hands down best thing ever I’ve done for our bodies is menu plan!!! My afternoon is spent prepping dinner then I spend time in the garden while the kids are on the trampoline. The fresh air and their laughter is all I need x.

Reply
Martyna @ Wholesome Cook August 10, 2014 at 1:44 pm

Hi Samone,
I have been meaning to do menu / meal plans for us for some time, but I find it tricky to manage with ad hoc client recipe work (which we end up eating). Perhaps I could plan our menu around a 4-5 day week and that way the gaps cap be filled with other food. Something for me to ponder, thanks for the tip!

Jayne @ Tenacious Tinkering August 4, 2014 at 2:57 pm

I nourish myself my taking time to prepare and plan out healthy meals for my husband and I. On special occasions, we’d try to make time to go to natural surroundings (riverside, park, forest reserve etc) for hikes or just to breathe in some fresh air.

Hi Catherine, I am with you on sleep. Lack of sleep (some weeks when I’m overworked or stressed or thinking about work) I tend to walk around dehydrated and craving foods I don’t normally. I’ve found that every 6 or so weeks I tend to have sleepy days where I basically say to my family that my day will consist of napping. They say you can’t recharge your sleep batteries but it works for me at restoring the balance a whole lot.

Thanks for the opportunity.

Hi Belinda, I just wanted to say you are superstar – you have a lot on your plate!
I can relate a little so I hope that you can find some wholesome food inspiration on the blog as well. Most nights I don’t have more than 30 minutes to cook, but I always make sure that we eat well. Even when we indulge on a night out (with hot chippies) I make sure we have some good veggies first.
