In season: fruit, veggies and herbs in December

In-season produce such as fruit, veges and herbs are at their best and cheapest, providing for a thrifty way to add some colour and variety to your meal-time menus. Summer especially provides a wide variety of fruits and vegetables in season.  

December

Fruit: Apricot, banana, berries, cherries, grapes, lychee, mango, melons, nectarine, passionfruit, peaches, pineapples, oranges

Veges: Broccoli, cabbage, capsicum, carrot, cucumber, leek, onions, peas, radish, rhubarb, sweet corn, tomato, zucchini

Herbs: Basil, chives, coriander, dill, mint, oregano, parsley, rosemary, sage, thyme, watercress

    Pineapples and Watercress are in season too! But I didn’t know about cherries. I always have to pay a bit more especially just before christmas. Maybe I’m just not going to the right shop. Where do you buy your vegies from?

    • Updated list, thanks eatmarvin. I like to buy my fruit and veg from Harris Farm or Sydney’s many growers’ markets. Just last week Harris Farm had boxes of about 12 mangoes priced at $16. Great for freezing and whipping out in the winter too! Their cherries go down in price too later in the month…

    definitely my favorite time of the year! I have a few apricot trees at home and still think it’s the best investment I’ve made! :)
